|
|
I am trying to install Gentoo 1.4 rc3 and I am using a WPC11 Linksys wireless PCMCIA NIC. I read in the forums to use modprobe orinoco_cs which works okay but then I try to use net-setup eth0 and after I type in all the information it says something to the effect of eth0; unknown device. I checked (using lsmod) and orinoco_cs orinoco hermes pcmcia_core are loaded. Am I missing something? |

I installed Gentoo with an Orinoco wireless pcmcia adapter and a WAP11 Linksys AP. I had no problems getting it to work. The directions were flawless, but you do need to remember to select the correct ethx interface. My interface was eth1 because it was my second interface. _________________ ========================================

okay i tried running the two commands given:
modprobe ds
cardmgr -f
however my eth0 interface still doesn't show up even when i type
ifconfig -a
I read in the forums about the drivers and people said they worked so I'm at a loss as for what to do to get my network card working. Any ideas? |

You might save yourself some grief if you just install Gentoo over a wired interface if you have that option. Then you can configure the wireless card later. Search for WPC11 on the forums and there is a good thread on how to do it with both the orinoco/hermes and the linux-wlan-ng.
These are the directions people use to get it working with orinoco/hermes drivers:

Hope that helps. _________________ Meh. |

I have a sony laptop with a linksys card.
Try cardmgr -o
dhcpcd eth1 (the wireless card will be eth1 unless you don't have any other ethernet card) _________________ Visit here to get YOUR Linux box counted and get a coool little gif like mine |
