Well, emerge either a DE or WM. Most people usually emerge kde, gnome, or a *box to get things started. Then, add
if you emerged gnome
Code: | exec /usr/bin/startkde |
if you emerged KDE or
Code: | exec /usr/bin/fluxbox |
if you emerged a *box. Just replace Flux with Black, Open, or w/e.
Add those to your ~/.xinitrc and then type in as a user.
The DE/WM emerges take awhile so you might wanna just leave the comp running and let portage do its thing. Also, check out http://www.linuxcommand.org/ for some bash terminal commands that allow you to use your system without a GUI. _________________ Registered Linux User #387568

I would suggest that you start installing the split KDE builds, so just do
Code: | emerge kdebase-startkde |
to install the latest stable KDE build, 3.4.* something _________________ emerge IQ |

Also, if you haven't done so already, create a daily user. You only want to do things as root IF it is absolutly neccessary. You can find the directions here _________________ www.otw20.com
