|
|
every time i fire up my gentoo box i get the error
/usr/sbin/alsactl: load_state:1250: Cannot find soundcard '0'...
i have alsa in the kernel (gentoo-sources) i also have udevstart in /etc/conf.d/local but for some reason the card is there but it is muted, once i run alsaconf everything is fine. Untill the next reboot i would be grateful for any help because running alsaconf on every start cannot be a solution.

I suppose you've built alsa driver as a module and you get the error when starting /etc/init.d/alsasound, am I correct?
Do you have coldplug? Does it work if you modprobe the sound card module instead of running alsaconf? If answers are no and yes you've to put the module in /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6. _________________ Adopt an unanswered post

The following is from the Gentoo Linux ALSA Guide
Quote: | Next, just check the /etc/conf.d/alsasound file and ensure that SAVE_ON_STOP variable is set to yes. This saves your sound settings when you shutdown your system. |
Is it possible that you don't have the SAVE_ON_STOP variable set to yes? I don't know how that might affect the soundcard but I expect it would help with the volume/mute settings? _________________ 1101 0011 1111 1111 |

Correct, that affects the mixer settings, but can't make device disappear at next boot. _________________ Adopt an unanswered post

i solved the problem with:
equery -i list alsa
unmerge all alsa packages
emerge --unmerge --ask alsa-lib alsa-oss alsa-utils alsa-headers gst-plugins-alsa-0.8.11
and reinstall alsa
emerge alsa-lib alsa-oss alsa-utils -av
then i ran alsaconf
rebooted and everything seems to work fine |

Also check if "udevstart" creates the devices in /dev/sound..
There was a udev update 077-r1 that seems to have broken sound for me. Link to the thread here.
Long story short, see if running "udevstart" fixes your problem. Remember to restart arts (killall artsd) afterwords also... |
