I followed the gentoo docs to install squirrelmail waaay back when i installed gentoo and it just occurred to me to try to get rid of htis annoying error when i try to get to the logon page.

You can:
1. Get a real cert
pros: never ever see an error again
cons: cost money, takes time
2. Create a new cert yourself
pros: cheap, easy, done in 15 minutes
cons: You'll see the "No cert authority" type error the first time.
Just tell it to permantly save the cert and you'll never see the error again... in that browser.
