EDIT: lo ho accorciato un pochettino... non sò se va bene
lo sò che questi post oramai hanno annoiato... ma non sò dove cominciare...
Vorrei provare ad installare una ati X550XT sotto gentoo... ho seguito l'howto trovato sul wiki
ho installato i driver... fatto fglrxconfig creato xorg.conf ma quando dò startx il pc si blocca con una schermata piena di puntini colorati... simili a quelli che si vedono quando la tv non prende il segnale...
io non ho mai avuto schede ati... quindi non sò dove potrebbe essere il problema... se qualcuno mi può dare una mano...
P.S. il driver vesa và alla grande... ma ovviamente non mi và l'accelerazione 3d...
Come avere un motore di una ferrari dentro una 500

2 cose:
1) puoi editare il tuo post e accorciarlo? postare tutto il tuo xorg.conf non è molto utlie... penso bastino solo le sezioni relative alla scheda video e al monitor semmai
2) te lo sposto nel forum principale

nulla... Ho provato anche a disattivare il DRI...
Comunque la cosa strana è che fra tutti i puntini si vedono delle linee verdastre... non sò forse è il logo della ati? una immagine tutta verde? o è solo un effetto del freeze
EDIT:
mi sono dimenticato di dire che la scheda stà su una pciexpress... cambia qualcosa?

Cambia tutto: devi attivare il supporto pciexpress nel kernel e non quello agp (e il supporto agp interno del driver non ti serve, visto che PCIE).

ho visto... è già inserito il modulo nel kernel pciexpress... ed ho tolto il pcihotplug nulla... si inchioda sempre...

Anche io ho una ati (9800 pro), ma è AGP, per cui non ho avuto nessuno di questi problemi.

fatto "eselect opengl set ati" ?
controlla anche nel kernel sia attivato supporto PCI-E e AGPGART come modulo (si fglrx lo richiede anche se la scheda non è AGP)
se hai possibilità di cambiare scheda prendi NVIDIA 
ho una ATI 9800xt AGP e x800xt PCI-E, oltre ad avermi dato diversi problemi per farle "funzionare" adesso ogni tanto fanno capricci e le performance sono davvero deludenti.
