Ftp server recommendation [solved]

what is the story with an ftp server?

I want to allow all the users to have an ftp account to there home direcotry..

Can anyone help?

i found pure-ftp is easiest for that.
emerge -pv pure-ftpd

Easy to configure, pretty good performance (got better transfer rates than using proftpd, although some people will contest this)
support for about anything you may need

but as for the setup with not having to creat a users for everyone that is not the case?

just keep the default pure-ftpd settings then.

File: /etc/conf.d/pure-ftpd
AUTH="-l unix" will tell pure-ftpd to use your unix users.
and MISC_OTHER:
The '-A' switch stands for chroot everyone but root. -> only access to home folder

Ok i have changed

Went to vsftp and it works "kind of"

I am using ftp in command line only and it works for my account
now when i go to another user and try to login it come up saying

220 Welcome to blah FTP service.
Name (localhost:namit): blauser
331 Please specify the password.
Password: *********
530 Login incorrect.

What is with that

i have done id on both my users and greg

uid=1004(namit) gid=1002(website) groups=1002(website)
mailman:/home/namit/# id blauser
uid=1009(blauser) gid=1002(website) groups=1002(website)

ok it was some problem that i had not set the shell

a silly question maybe but is auto-completion available in any of the ftp servers you have suggested until now?? something like when pressing the TAB button when you are in bash...

what was wrong with pure-ftpd? it supports all needed.. including virtual users.
