Hi All
I am having a problem getting KMail to use aspell. When I try to run a spell check I get the message:
ISpell/Aspell could not be started. Please make sure you have ISpell or Aspell properly configured and in your PATH.
The problem is that aspell is in my path:
sh-2.05b$ which aspell
/usr/bin/aspell
and I do have a disctionay installed. Is there a special path that I need to set.
Thanks
Kevin
PS: I have installed KDE 3.1 |

It may be a name issue. If it reports that Aspell cannot be found but that aspell is found in /usr/bin you may want to try to link /usr/bin/aspell to /usr/bin/Aspell . Just a random basic idea, I never used the dictionary function of Kmail so I cannot help you much. |

I just fixed this problem on my computer. Here's how.
Configure the spellchecker in the composer window by selecting Settings->Spellchecker. Set the client to Aspell.
There is a spell checker panel under KDE components in the contol center that might have to be configured the same way. |

Hello:
I can't seem to get Aspell to work with either Kmail or Kword. Can anyone
help? I've searched the forums, but everyone appears to suggest procedures
that I have already taken... :-\
For reference:
The error when attempting to initiate the spellchecker:
Code: |
"ISpell/Aspell could not be started. Please make sure you have
ISpell or Aspell properly configured and in your PATH."

My KDE Spellchecking Control Component is set such that:
Dictionary is set to: Aspell
and
Client is set to: Aspell
Does anybody have any ideas???
Thanks in advance!

What else can I do? This would be really nice to have a solution for...
Neither does this work in kword, or any other app that I can tell. _________________ For me, to pursue social justice is to liberate as many computers as possible from the tyranny of Microsoft. |

I had to set it in the control panel AND in Kmail. Just a thought... I just got it working a second ago. _________________ Repeat after me! This world is made of love and peace! |

I fixed this problem by emerging ispell and changing the settings to ispell. Everything works just fine now. _________________ Casey Bralla

Careful with ispell
Code: |
echo reccomend | ispell
@(#) International Ispell Version 3.2.06 08/01/01
word: how about: recco mend, recco-mend
word:
|
vs aspell
Code: |
echo reccomend | aspell -a
@(#) International Ispell Version 3.1.20 (but really Aspell 0.50.5)
& reccomend 10 0: recommend, recommends, recommender, reckoned, regiment, recombined, commend, recommenced, recommended, reclined |
