After a system freeze, I had no other solution but to push my reset button.
When the system rebooted, I got a bunch of errors like Code: | syntax error near unexpected token `(' | during the system startup, with services which therefore refused to start, even manually after the boot process (the same error had shown up). I tried to reemerge baselayout, bash, portage with no success. Since I work with ~amd64, I tried to emerge the latest stable baselayout from amd64 but my problem was still there.
My FS is reiserfs, and emerge was compiling something at the time of the freeze. etc-update tells me it has nothing to do.
I'm pretty much stuck here, and don't really have time for an emerge -e system or an emerge -e world for now.
Any ideas that could help me to solve my problem?
Thank you very much in advance. |

Same problem, although different situation (no hard reboot). I've randomly got a syntax error in the net.lo init file.
Code: | /etc/init.d/net.eth0: line 182: syntax error near unexpected token `('
/etc/init.d/net.eth0: line 182: ` eval umods=( \"\$\{modules_${iface}\[@\]\}\" )'' | Hand typed looking at laptop screen, so might not be 100% accurate. _________________ Adopt an unanswered post today |

I am thinking this is caused by the new bash 3.1? |

Thank you, downgrading bash resolved the issue.
I hope the next bash ebuilds won't lead to this issue anymore. I don't have time right now to post on bugs.gentoo.org, if someone can, please do. |
