sound breaks when emerge kicks in [ via82xx KM400 ]

Hay,
I got gentoo working on my Biostar Ideq 210V fine. via82xx is recognized and plays fine.

However: whenever I emerge during playback the sound breaks and sometimes stops.

I folowed the advise of enabling Preemption Model > Voluntary Kernel preemption, and it did help.
I get less sound breaking - during cpu stress, but if I emerge gcc (for example) with a nice of 19 , I do get hick-ups.
when the cpu is stressed, the sound cuts - off.

I tried using a usb audio device - and got the same resault.

How can I make it work smooth?
