Perchè quando (da root, ovviamente) aggiungo un utente ad un gruppo con gpasswd -a $username $groupname se poi faccio groups $username da root, l'utente viene mostrato come membro del gruppo $groupname, mentre se digito "groups" da utente il gruppo non compare nel risultato?

root# gpasswd -a cyborg dialout
root# groups cyborg
users lp wheel dialout ecc...
exit
cyborg# groups
users lp wheel ecc... (manca dialout appena aggiunto)

sono costretto a fare reboot affinchè appaia anche facendo groups da utente..
perchè?
