Wollte gerade das Update auf gcc-3.4.4 anschmeißen, da ist mir folgende Merkwürdigkeit ins Auge gestochen:

Wieso sind die denn beide installiert? Wenn ich das "system"-Update richtig interpretiere, ist doch module-init-tools das korrekte Paket für mein Profil (/usr/portage/profiles/hardened/x86/), oder?
Was macht das modutils noch da? Und kann ich das gefahrlos entfernen?
Weil nämlich:

Nein, es waren definitiv beide installiert.
Der block wurde laut irgendeinem Bugreport erst nachträglich eingefügt, nachdem diversen Usern die Parallelinstallation von modutils und module-init-tools um die Ohren geflogen ist.

Du kannst davon ausgehen, dass ich mit exakt diesen beiden Begriffen Google, dieses Forum und bugs.gentoo.org belästigt habe. Ich habe dutzende von Threads zu dem Thema gelesen, aber nichts war für mich wirklich hilfreich. Der Tenor der teilweise wirklich alten Threads war halt nur: module-init-tools für Kernel 2.6, modutils für 2.4. Ob das für den aktuellen 2.4er Kernel gilt war mir aber nicht klar, da
a) es von modutils keine zum aktuellen Kernel passende Version gibt (wobei ich nicht weiß ob das ne entscheidende Rolle spielt, es klang mir aber so)
b) laut diversen Berichten die module-init-tools einwandfrei mit Kernel 2.4 zusammenarbeiten
c) das 2.4er Gentoo Hardened Profil anscheinend die module-init-tools bevorzugt.
Hab mittlerweile modutils entfernt und alles läuft einwandfrei. |

ok, jetzt sehe ich es auch, habe speziell den zweiten Teil nicht aufmerksam genug gelesen - mein Fehler.
