I apologize for not searching more thouroughly. I'm in links, firefox is still compiling. I just installed a new gentoo system. and then upgraded to gcc-3.4.4 (whatever revision is stable) so it may be related. I did an emerge -e system and a revdep-rebuild after I figure my world stuff is prob still small. I may be wrong that may be the prob. here's my compile error

... um how do i paste into links2?

missing is part of automake. Maybe your automake version is out of date?

emerge -uav automake

well I did an
Code:
emerge -e system
after I upgraded... so it should have re-emerged that right. I'll do that right now just in case. actually re-emerge automake.

This may be a dumb question, but do you have imlib installed? Are you building fluxbox with the imlib use flag set?

I know this isn't probably what you want, but does emerging it without imilb support work?

Code:
USE=-imlib emerge fluxbox

imlib is a graphics rendering library, AFAIK.

You may miss out on some eye candy, I dunno. I use fluxbox, and always have this option enabled, it's never given me any trouble. I wonder whether this is some makefile problem, or maybe the configure isn't picking up the right dependent libraries?

You've got a gradient in the title bars, what more do you want ;)

In fact, you've even got icons for min, max, icon and close!

well that's true... lol it's so much better than what i'm using right now... blackbox... shudders... fluxbox's dad. If this doesn't work or it really makes things look crappy I'm gonna get a binary of fluxbox. and use that 'till I can get a working compile of it.

If you like *box, you might want to give openbox or waimea a try, they're all essentially forks, I think.

I haven't used waimea for a long while. When I tried it the first thing I noticed was that it was fast - it just felt much snappier than *box. The problem was that it didn't support function key desktop switching - though I think this may have been added since.

I've not actually read the docs - I've been using fluxbox longer than I've been using Gentoo.

I've been using UNIX desktops for a long time now, I like fluxbox because it's in that tradition of "keeping out of the way".
