I have been having a problem with the past several versions of kaddressbook, and I can't figure out the source of the error.
While using kaddressbook both as a part of kontact, or by itself, my .vcf file is saved as a zero-byte file! I can recover the data by renaming a backup file, add a few contacts, press save, and everything is fine. I can exit and restart the program and everything is fine. I reboot, and it's gone again! Furthermore, I have not noticed kaddressbook making automatic backup files anymore (xyz.vcf_1, etc.)
The file is saved locally on a shared drive--- there's no NFS or other complicating factors here, so I think it's a kaddressbook problem. The file is shared with my server via Unison, but so are other files, and there's no problem with them. I never edit the file on the server, or even open it, either. I've checked the unison logs and the file is always being propagated to the server, since my laptop is always the most up-to-date file. This is a x86 system...
Any bright ideas? Is anyone else having the same problem?
Any help is much aprpeciated... |

I can report this same kind of problem, although not on my system but rather a co-workers...
I can't reproduce the problem on my system. Both systems run the same version of software & similar use flags (kde 3.5.1). one is amd64 (not affected) the other is prescott (affected).
I've been recovering from loss the same way you described, by just restoring from one of the .vcf_# files.
Have you found any information on this?
btw, I found another post on this same topic
