|
|
I'm having problems with gtkpod showing special (latin) characters in my local collection. Basically, instead of shwoing them, gtkpod puts a space in there.
for example, it shows "Fito P ez" instead of "Fito Páez". I have my charset in "general" set to Unicode (UTF-8 ). In addition, Amarok shows all filenames just fine. It is gtkpod that is giving me headaches. Any ideas? |

I'm having this problem also, and have been too lazy to do anything about it. (Not a very constructive comment, I know....) |

Then why don't you stop being lazy and try to think about it? I'm not lazy, just have no ideas what the problem could be.
Let's throw some ideas:
- Amarok shows stuff fine.
- gktpod not
- filenames show fine in konqueror
- Does amarok get names from id3 tags or from filenames?
- Does gtkpod get names from id3 tags or from filenames?
I would asume both from from id3 tags, but let's just motivate you to think |

Ok, I'm on it.
There seems to be some options for choosing the charset in the "general" tab of the options dialogue. Right now, that's set to "system charset". Try changing it to UTF-8, then try using the option for using the selected charset for updating/syncing. Haven't tested it yet, but I'm hopeful... |

You may need to re-rip your accented mp3s to get the filenames right if you want them to be utf-8. I found audiocd:/ did a good job on my Portugese & Hungarian characters, tho' it might be a bit slower. Amarok displays info from the tag. neat little app gtkpod.. "All I need for Christmas..." is an iPod _________________ "I am not bound to please thee with my answers" W.S. |

I have been using abcde to rip lately, and it appears to preserve special characters because rhythmbox and other players display them without issue. It's really only gtkpod that fails to read the special characters. |

Why re-rippping. I really can't do that. I have my original CDs across the ocean. Should I rename them? I assume both GTKpod and Amarok both get names from tags. So either I am wrong, or I don't get it. So far, I don't get it. |

For god sake! I can't believe that no one else has had this problem!! Either no one solved it (please share your missery so I don't feel so bad), or please tell me how you've solved it (and make my christmas wish become true )
The other possibility is that no one here listens to music in languages other than English (then you are missing a lot of cool stuff) |
