Hello

I switched (at least I tried) from gentoo-kernel 2.6.11-r9 to 2.6.14-r5 and than I got few problems, I tried to switch back to my old kernel but I got the same problems :/

Ok first what I exactly did.
- emerged the gentoo-sources.
- set the softling /usr/src/linux to the new sources
- make && make modules && make modules_install && make install
- copied the arch/i386/boot/bzImage to /boot
- also copied the System.map to /boot
- made a new entry in /etc/lilo.conf for the new kernel
- run /sbin/lilo
and restarted

Now the exeact error messages.
I get a few errors while booting, especially with the network adapter (which is very bad, since internet is the most important thing ;). When I run the init script later manually by /etc/init.d/net.eth0 start I get the following messages:

adsl does not support the required function provides
apipa does not support the required function check_installed
....
Since I can't do copy&paste here the list of what does not support the required function provides or check_installed:
arping, bonding, bridge, dhclient, dhcpcd, essidnet, ifconfig, ifplugd, ipppd, iproute2, iptunnel, iwconfig, macchanger, macnet, netplugd, pppd, pump, rename, system, tuntap, udhcpc, wpa_supplicant

and at last
no interace module has been loaded

So, what did I miss when I tried to install the new kernel?

cu

Okay my fault, I also emerged a few packages before upgrading the kernel and didn't fix the config files yet, after I did that network works again.

Reboot with the install LiveCD, do the chroot as described in the handbook and re-emerging sys-apps/net-tools.

Hope it helps.
