Hi,
also ich hätte mal ne frage, ich habe ein Notebook mit einen Centrino drin,... ich weiss das ist doof, dumm, etc., aber wie kann ich unter gentoo den Centrino ansprechen, damit ich auch mein WLan nutzen kann!
Welche Treiber brauche ich dafür ?
Als Kernel habe ich den aktuellen 2.6.14-gentoo-r5
Kann mir da einer helfen ?? Danke schon ma!

ipw2200 oder ipw2100,
je nach Chipsatz halt.
(lspci liefert die Infos die Du brauchst)
die passende Firmware zieht portage gleich mit.
Ahja, vorher musst Du noch ieee80211
emergen, welches wiederum zuerst ein paar
Dateien aus Deinem Kernelverzeichnis loeschen will.
mach einfach
emerge ieee80211,
in dem darauffolgenden Fehler steht was Du ausfuehren musst,
dann nochmals emergen, dann emerge -av ipw2*00

Btw: Was soll an Centrino dumm sein?
Die werden unter Linux in meinen Augen prima
Unterstuetzt (okay, monitor mode fuer ipw2200 hat zu lange gedauert),
der Pentium-M ist so ziemlich der beste Mobilprozessor auf dem Markt,
die Notebooks sind wunderschoen schmal und fressen wenig Strom...

Die IPW2x00 Treiber sind seit 2.6.14 im Kernel aktivierbar. Am besten als Modul, damit du sie entladen kannst zum Strom sparen, falls WLAN nicht benötigt wird.

Wow, das waere fast ein Grund fuer mich auf 2.6.14 umzusteigen, waere da nicht
das laestige Problem mit vesafb-tng (Bug ist submitted) und der Tatsache,
dass Suspend2 einfach nicht mit meinem Laptop will (auch bekannt)
Mal abwarten...
