I don't know a GNOME-specific toolbar, but I know one for KDE called KoolDock.

you could use gdesklets, or adesklets for example
or you could use a transparent gnome panel

The OS X toolbar is taken from the NeXT Dock, so anything based on that will get you close. Afterstep & GNUstep/WindowMaker have docks. I think the fvwm-95 also had a dock. (Windows also stole from NeXT.) You'll have to do some configuring to get it to look and feel like the dock in OS X, and it probably won't be an exact match.

Personally, I find the docks less useful in WindowMaker or Afterstep than under Mac OS X Dock because I can configure mouse clicks to bring up an application menu. In other words, the drawbacks of OS X make the dock useful there. It's nice that OS X allows you to configure the dock to get out of your way when you don't need it.[/post][/glep]

With proper configs, programs and themes it's possible to make it look like mac. But won't work like mac or won't be like mac.

I made my desktop once look like exactly osx 10.3 but then I changed it little by little to my own direction until I realized that it doesn't look mac anymore. It looks like KDE. :)

Here it is what it looked in the end. See that I have modified it like maniac so it doesn't look like osx thought it has same elements. http://www.deviantart.com/view/10399561/

But for your project I suggest that you start from these links:

http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=8692
(baghira, don't thurst the screenshot it's like really old, it looks and works better and it's aiming for 1:1 look and feel. It's also fully configurable.)

(theme example, it's working..)
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=30789

(better close,minimize,toggle buttons for baghira)
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=30929

(Some random stuff kde-look theme to help you get started...)
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=23535

And lots of other stuff can be found by using kde-look.org search function and google. Remember to theme your gf's GTK also with aqua look. In that you will find easily applyable themes from art.gnome.org and gnome-look.org

Have fun, try hard you can make it. :)

I followed http://www.xiaprojects.com/www/prodotti/kxdocker/main.php?action=download

Quote:
How to install KXDocker with emgerge:
before starting check if you have into /etc/make.conf:
PORTDIR_OVERLAY=/usr/local/portage

mkdir -p /usr/local/portage/kde-misc/kxdocker/
mkdir -p /usr/local/portage/kde-misc/kxdocker-resources/
cp kxdocker-0.*.ebuild /usr/local/portage/kde-misc/kxdocker/
cp kxdocker-resources-*.ebuild \
/usr/local/portage/kde-misc/kxdocker-resources/
cd /usr/local/portage/kde-misc/kxdocker/
ebuild kxdocker-*.ebuild digest
cd /usr/local/portage/kde-misc/kxdocker-resources/
ebuild kxdocker-resources-*.ebuild digest

then I did an
Code:
emerge kxdocker

I think I did try an emerge -pv kxdocker before I did all that and got its no ebuilds thing but maby I had a typeo in it?
Can you just emerge it?
That would be really funny if I did all that and I could have emerged it.
Oh well
I had been trying to figure out how to install sql-ledger from an ebuild on bugzilla and I couldent figure out the manual on ebuilds got frustrated and figured I would customise kde for relaxation.
wa-la I found a little example to on ebuilds.
Just goes to show that plowing forward is not always straight ahead
