Hello!
I am wondering what the "autoconfiguring devices" part in the init process on all those install-cds does. First I saw it on Knoppix, but now it is on most install media. It shows the CPU and a green status line that grows and says autoconfiguring devices.
What is it for, and what package has to be emerged to get it on my installation?

You don't know what it's for, but you know you want it? 
I beleive the knoppix tools are in portage. Try | Code: | | # emerge -s knoppix |
I'm not sure what the gentoo livecd uses. Someone else can chime in on that one. |

Well - I do not know if it's useful, but I like the style
No - first of all I am interested in learning what it does. Then I would like to decide if I need it... if you read my post carefully you may see my intention: learn about it from someone who knows and also get the information - if I like it - how to install it.
Also in the near future I plan to create my own LiveCD for my own purposes and for use on a big variety of machines, so this prog could be very interesting to me.
