Just upgrade to vmware-workstation-5.5.1.19175, re-ran the module build stuff OK, fired up Windows XP in a VMWare session (installed under VMWare 5.5), everything looks OK. Went to upgrade VMWare Tools to the new version, install went fine, but after the WinXP session reboots, it BSOD's and resets the session, resulting in a never ending loop of booting and then immediately BSOD'ing.
Anyone else seen this behaviour? Does a re-install of the guest OS fix it? I fear installing the 'broken' tools may mean a re-install is necessary _anyway_, even if I have to downgrade VMWare back to 5.5. _________________ Jingle Jangle Jewellery |

I haven't updated VMware tools in the Win XP Pro client yet and it's not crashing. Still running VMware Tools build-18463. I'm not getting any messages from VMware indicating my VMware Tools are out of date. Were you getting those before updating Tools?
There's an open question on the VMTN forums about whether we need to update the Tools for 5.5.1 since 5.5.0's tools seem to work.

VMWAre got updated to 5.5.1 in ~x86 and as per usual I ran the Tools updater after starting my virtual XP. That's when the problem started.
I've just completed a clean re-install of XP on the updated VMWare and the Tools install and work OK, so it just seems to be an issue when you go to upgrade the Tools on a previously installed virtual machine. _________________ Jingle Jangle Jewellery |

I'm running 5.5.1 with the 5.5.0 VMware Tools. I'm just trying to figure out if the problem you experienced is global or unique to your setup... _________________ Keith Kastorff |

I just cloned my XP vmware session and applied the updated vmware-tools, and it worked without any problems.
Must be specific to your system or something you have installed in XP maybe. |

I'll back my vm up and give it a go. Thanks Headrush.
Edit: Word is from VMware you don't have to upgrade the VMware Tools if moving from 5.5.0 to 5.5.1.
Edit 2: My upgrade to VMware Tools build-19175 was trouble free. _________________ Keith Kastorff |
