try scim and scim-pinyin
IMHO, this is the best pinyin input method in Linux |

I just run "emerge fcxit" and
config my .xinitrc as following:
export LANG=zh_CN
export LC_ALL=zh_CN
export XMODEIFIERS="@im=fcitx"
export XIM=fcitx
export XIM_PROGRAM=fcitx
fcitx&
exec gnome-session
then fcitx works ok.
