Code:

# modprobe nvidia
FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.14-gentoo-r4/video/nvidia.ko): No such device

I emerge nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx, and I have nvidia support in my kernel....

Code:

Device Drivers ---->
   Graphics support --->
       [x] nVidia framebuffer support
       [  ]  nVidia Riva support

Any idea why it won't load?

the nvidia framebuffer support in the kernel and the nvidia driver clash, remove the framebuffer support and try again.

Thank you. I thought about that, but couldn't find anything for sure. Maybe I should search harder :D

I'll try again when I get home.

FYI, that fixed it.

but now I have another issue...

The module loads fine, an lspci gives me the card, etc

But, xorg will not start when I have nvidia set as the driver. It gives me an error similar to the following:

Code:
(EE) NVIIDA(0): Cannot load NVIDIA modules

No screens founds

What cuases this?

it'll probably just be a typo in your xorg.conf. go through it and if you can't see anything wrong then post it. there are a million and one resources around the internet to help you configure it though, so google will probably be your friend.
