hello, i'm installing gentoo on my imac g3, i have the base system pretty much installed, but when i reboot for the first time into my new system, i get this error:

Code:

VFS: Cannot open root device "hda4" or unknown-block (3,4)

then i get a kernel panic

there's also this error, i don't know if its contributing to the problem or not, but i'll post it anyway:
Code:

hda: unknown partition table

ususally when i get these errors, its because i didn't select IDE/ATA support in the kernel. but this time i did, and my yaboot.conf is correct, but i'm still getting errors.

Hi.

Since you're installing in an iMac, you may need to add support for other partition tables in your kernel. Don't forget to copy the kernel to /boot and to update grub.conf accordingly.

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Gentoo on PPC.

As Jorge said, you need to enable the ide driver and the driver for apple partition support. You also need the drivers for the filesystems you created on your partitions.

all that was already done. i had enabled PowerPC IDE and PCI support, all its sub-options, and all the ext3 and ext2 drivers.

Did you enable the support for the Macintosh partition map under the File systems --> Partition Types?
Oh and don't forget to compile the drivers for the controllers, file systems and partition table in the kernel <*> and not as modules <M>.

Are you certain that you've compiled in the kernel <*> and not as a module <M> the support for your / filesystem?
