Whenever I wish to view a video on the USATODAY.com web site I get the following error:
Quote:
To view USATODAY.com Video, you must have Macromedia Flash Player (7.0.25 or higher) installed on your computer, and use Internet Explorer 6, Safari or a Mozilla-based browser

I have emerged netscape-flash:
Code:
 # emerge -pv netscape-flash

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild   R   ] net-www/netscape-flash-7.0.61  0 kB

But I still get the same error message...

Does anyone have an idea how to get firefox to use netscape-flash? Is this a Use flag issue?

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Thanks

I believe they are incorrectly routing you to the don't meet requirements site.
It is not your error, it is theirs.
Send them a note from the link on that page you get redirected to.

It is kind of ironic since before you get to the page where you are told you can't watch flash movies, you are directed to an advertising site where, you guessed it, you get to watch a flash movie advertisement.

Can you view flash on any other site?

Yes I do see flash elsewhere... e.g. Test Flash

And, using my wife's Windows pc, I see flash on video links at USATODAY

Unfortunately, I just get the error mentioned above when I try to follow the "USATODAY" link... :?

Does anyone succeed in following that link using their gentoo box??

Thanks to anyone willing to try USATODAY using gentoo and post the result!

Try installing the user agent switcher extension from http://chrispederick.com/work/useragentswitcher/

Then go to Tools, User Agent Switcher and select Internet Explorer 6 (Windows XP)

Using this method the USATODAY videos play for me in Firefox 1.5. Interestingly enough, using the Netscape or Opera settings don't work for me either, just the Explorer setting, so it definitely seems to be something foobar'ed on USA Today's side of things. Maybe they're looking at the OS name being reported from Firefox rather than looking for flash capability.

Well, that gives me a partial fix! :D

Now I'm able to open to the metrics.feedroom.com page (which I was unable to access before installing user agent switcher), but I'm still unable to run the video. When I attempt to select any of the video choices, using the Windoz pc, I get a Macromedia Flash Player 8 box which runs the video. When I try the video on my gentoo system, I get no Flash Player box... and no video. :(

Does anyone have thoughts on that?? :?

Thanks!

I doubt flashplayer 8 has been ported to linux. It's barely been out for windows a short while. Until a linux port comes out I'm afraid you won't be able to view flash 8 content on Linux.
