I have a problem with my TV-out settings. I have a Nvidia GeForce 2 card.
It is no problem to clone my screen out to the TV but the problem is that I don't get any colors. I only get
a grayscale picture.
The interesting section in looks like this:
Code: |
Section "Device"
# Identifier "nVidia Inc. GeForce2" #this one or "gainward"
Identifier "GAINWARD"
Driver "nvidia"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
Option "NvAGP" "2"
Option "CursorShadow" "true"
#Option "RenderAccel" "on"
Option "TwinView" #"true"
Option "TwinViewOrientation" "Clone"#"RightOf"
Option "MetaModes" "1280x1024,640x480"
Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "31-82" # "30-50"
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "50-100" # "50-60"
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "CRT,TV"
Option "TVStandard" "PAL-B"
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen 1"
#Device "nVidia Inc. GeForce2"
Device "GAINWARD"
Monitor "Samsung"
DefaultDepth 24
Option "TVStandard" "PAL-B"
Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" "640x400"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
EndSection
|
Ihave tried with the commented out lines too but it doesn't work. |

Are you sure you need PAL and not NTSC? _________________ www.garberdesign.com

Try running nvidia-settings and check the saturation level for the TV-0 display device, should be 128 ish. Mine resets with every X restart, not a huge problem when thats about 5 times a year but still annoying. |

What??
My TV-0 settings are:
*TV flicker filter
*Tv brightness
*TV Contrast
*Digital vibrance
What do you mean with "128 ish" ??? |

The fact you have no access to the setting would suggest to me it's not supported by either your card or driver, and 128ish means ~128.
Just to (maybe) be helpful here is a working xorg.conf section Code: | Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "Videocard vendor"
BoardName "FX5700LE"
Option "TVStandard" "PAL-I"
Option "TVOutFormat" "Composite"
Option "IgnoreEDID" "1"
OPtion "TwinView" "1"
Option "MetaModes" "CRT-0:1280x1024 ;CRT-0:1024x768, TV-0:800x600;CRT-0:800x600, TV-0:800x600;"
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "60"
Option "secondMonitorHorizSync" "30-50"
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "TV-0, CRT-0"
Option "TwinViewOrientation" "Leftof"
Option "DPMS" "0"
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Videocard0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
Option "TVStandard" "PAL-I"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600"
EndSubSection
EndSection

Also the tv has to be connected on starting X or it is in permanent black and white (no nv-settings fix). |

Thanks. The thing is that it worked before to get colors. So I know that there is not problem with my card. I think it can be some problem with my SCART-cable instead or maybe my TV. But the the TV I had before was from 1989 and this one is from 2005. Bout I will try with my old cable |

Today I accidentally discovered that using the sound plug on the tv out cable gave me black&white instead of the coloured screen I have when using another cable for the sound. Maybe your problem is something like this?
I don't get why it is that way, but for me it was the solution for the same problem. |

firstly: why are you trying to clone a 1280x1024 screen onto a 640x480? for clone to work, don't they have to be the same res?
secondly: isn't sweden PAL-G? you have it down as PAL-B
thirdly: you have your SecondMOnitorVertRefresh as "50-60", for PAL it should be "50". in my experience, if you tell it "50-60", it picks 60Hz and you get garbage.
can't think of anything more just now.

Sweeden is PAL-B/G according to google. Is there an option for that as opposed to just B or G? |

as far as i know, PAL-B/G just means that sweden are running two systems. PAL-B is VHF, PAL-G is UHF, so it actually shouldn't matter if it is set to B or G, because the equipment in sweden will have to be able to support both. but (correct me if i'm wrong) the PAL-B and the PAL-G only sets what frequencies are used for the different tv stations, so unless he is sending the signal down the aerial socket (instead of the scart, composite, svideo or whatever) it should just work for any PAL setting. so now i'm not even sure why i brought it up in the first place.
i'm hedging my bets on the refresh rate, because a badly set refresh rate can send the TV way off. could also be that he hasn't specified if he is outputting using an svideo port, a composite port or etc etc etc... |
