it would be very nice if someone would post a command that let us print on the screen the list of -7 ebuilds installed. That way we would know what packages we have installed from this scripts and we wouldn't forgot to update it from time to time.

cheers!

I am thinking of writing a script that adds revision numbers to the ebuilds every week IF there were changes to the content of the repository for that particular program/library/whatever. In turn, those will show up if you -pu, as long as you download the tarball for updates (or maybe I could see if we can use something like gensync)

hi.

thanx for the work..

how about checking out a branch ?!

i would love to have in my system :

/usr/kde/3.4 -> that is svn branch 3.4

/usr/kde/devel -> that is svn HEAD

i have been using branch 3.4 with the monolithic ebuilds and its great ( i used packages i did myself )

but with split ebuilds it would be a head ache , to use it like i was doing with monolithic ones.

is there a way to have both branch and trunk kde versions installed on one system ? because this is what is really cool ... to have bugfixs in the same day ( saved my like with the msn login prob )

would be nice to have this app in svn ebuilds:

http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=22135&PHPSESSID=64d278382f9dfe1b2b9adf02fdee44bf

It's KAT, a indexer and "searcher" for files in your HD. Something like google desktop, but for linux :)

Unless it goes into the KDE repository, there won't be an ebuild for it.

The main developer of KAT told me, as maintainer of the Kat-ebuilds, there won't be any SVN move
from CVS of KDE soon as their development cycle was too fast for the SVN-repository of KDE.
If Kat is more mature it will make the move to SVN. Until then the CVS-builds can be used.

Actually, I reconsidered. It is very easy to create cvs ebuilds for sourceforge modules, thus I created ones for kat, apollon and kradio. I will add more. I myself use those, let me know if there are any others you use.

damn, mario, i wanted to react like "of course he doesn't make these ebuilds, they are not from kde svn" but now you do :D

thats really cool :D

btw i have a question:

amarok and koffice don't install in seperate slots. quite annoying, imho. how can i fix this, or do you have to fix it?

and how can i let portage install all kde-7 ebuilds again (so upgrade to a newer svn version)? i don't have full kde-meta (so emerge -e =kde-meta-7 or something like that is a bit overkill) but there are too many packages to pick em by hand...

btw kde svn is REALLY REALLY cool!!! thanx for the ebuilds!!!

Bear with me. I got overexcited, until I realized that svn.berlios.de actually mirrored the svn database through rsync. I am waiting for download.berlios.de to activate, then I will set up rsync on it. Too bad there's no cron on berlios, I would just manually export from svn into the rsync folder.

Someone needs to ask the kde@gentoo guys why the policy is to install non-distro apps into /usr rather than /usr/kde/version. There must be a damn good reason, since the KDE guys insist it that everything should go into `kde-config --prefix`, and I think it would be related to us having multiple versions.

As for the apps being able to slotted, there would be at least three ways to approach that:
1. bind stable releases of apps to stable releases of KDE, and svn checkouts of apps to svn checkouts of KDE, but this is somewhat limited.
2. Create multiple directories in /usr/kde, each with its own bin, but that is nightmarish and would require PATH setting galore - very ugly.
3. Mix 1 and 2 as follows: 3 cups of milk, 5 eggs, a teaspoon of vinegar...uhm...oh..create branches independent of the kde releases themselves for the apps, say /usr/kde/appstable /usr/kde/appbeta /usr/kde/apprc /usr/kde/appdevel /usr/kde/apparchaic and whatnot. Thus way fewer PATH clobberings will occur, while being able to maintain slots.

But I am not eager to do it now, since I haven't asked kde@gentoo, and I am sure they have some good reasons to have been conservative.

As for your reinstall problem, try the following:
cd /var/db/pkg/
emerge -u `for i in */*-7; do echo =$i; done`

Looking at the repository, it seems they have moved stuff around. I will take a look to see if there's something that needs to be changed in the ebuilds, although I doubt it. I suspect they'll fix it themselves soon.

indeed. (mario, nice style of quoting. looks better. think i follow you on this)

quite often a build fails, because they just committed something that borks the build. just wait a few hours and try again ("sleep 1h && emerge kontact").

it can take time, if it still won't build after a few days, you might mail the developers of that particular application (if you are willing to help fixing it).

Does anybody know how the 'Switch user' feature is supposed to work now? Some time ago, there was a $KDE_HOME/share/config/kdm/Xservers file, which now seems to be gone. Even if I put it back, kdm won't let me have more than one user logged in.

(I know this isn't the right place to ask this question, but since everybody here runs a more recent version of kde...)

Thanks,
Alin
