Check under Control Center->Perepherals->Media Storage. Make sure that the daemon is set there.. (That is what it is if I remember correctly.)

The Daemon isnt listed...

I'm running an odd mix of 3.4 and 3.5... it may be due to that...

I had a similiar problem few days ago, it was related to hal and dbus being b0rked.
hal was linked against a dbus version that was upgraded so hal got broken.
Got it fixed by reemerging hal.

im running all three ~x86 as well as Konqueror, kdebase-ioslaves and several other packages (~x86 being 3.5)

i think the problem may be there....

any thoughts on programs i should update so they are all compatible?

It's actually "Storage Media".

I would go ahead and upgrade all of kde to 3.5 if I were you. If you still have trouble, then you can dig deeper. I'm running 3.5 and I love it.
