have installed 0.92 .. and the games and apps i installed have been working just fine . but then .. for no reason ( i did some compiling on system, but that got nothing to do with wine ) .. an error begin poping up uppon starting apps from wine .. i did an rebuild/update to 0.94 version and now .. i can`t install any application ...
wine freezes after a few seconds and then dies .. :( ..
Code:
$ wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x0000000c at address 0x7f83e462 (thread 000d), starting debugger...

Anyone has an idea how to solve this ?? :roll:
Should i try to recompile it ??

10x in advance .. :)

Cheers ...

He probably did a version hack to 0.9.4 It's not hard. I'm doing it as we speak, 0.9.4 is compiling here.

Can't help you atm. Maybe later after I compiled 0.9.4 and tried it.

Although this helped me with wine a few times with upgrading:

emerge -C wine && emerge =app-emulation/wine-version

Replace version with 0.9.4 now :)

Well, I did an update .. put an app-emulation/wine -* in package keywords and emerge it .. it`s an cvs version ..

i`ll try to unmerge it and then emerge it again .. maybe that`ll help ..

Don't know if this is your problem but my wine dies quickly unless I have configured it via 'winecfg' to use Emulation in the sound settings.

You must have your system "broken" in some way.
Berore installing Wine.

1. Update your system.
2. Remove old Wine versions from your system.
3. remove ~/.wine directory but remenber that fake c: is there.
4. emerge latest Wine in portage now it's 0.9.3 but soon it might be 0.9.4 and do not use any weird optimization settings.
5. type wine to create clean ~/.wine folder.

Now it should work.

It doesn't here.
I always upgrade my wine by moving my c-drive, then unmerging, removing ~/.wine, emerging new version.
But it didn't work with this one (0.9.4)
Even a totally fresh install on my new machine (running both Gentoo and FreeBSD, both tested) I get the same read acces thing.

Re-emerged 0.9.3 and no more problems now.

Hi, I seem to have similar problem: after removing ~/.wine and installing new version of wine, I got errors:

Code:
$ winecfg
wine: creating configuration directory '/home/gw/.wine'...
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x003c002f at address 0x7bec9d84 (thread 0009), starting debugger...
wine: wineprefixcreate failed while creating '/home/gw/.wine'.
wineserver: could not save registry branch to /home/gw/.wine-jHzSWP/system.reg : No such file or directory
wineserver: could not save registry branch to /home/gw/.wine-jHzSWP/user.reg : No such file or directory

I remember that some time ago running wine or winecfg after fresh install created ~/.wine without problems.

Regards,
gwolf

Any games I run in 0.9.4 crash with and unhandled exception (I could post the output but it's rather long). All works fine with 0.9.3.

Can you quote the whole error message ?

Try also :
Code:
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="msvcrt=n" wine yourapp.exe

Makes things work again .... is there any way to make this permanent other than using the command line? And is it possible to do it on a per-program basis as it's only games that are affected by this (e.g. in the wine registry)?

Problems seem to be solved after a sync.
I noticed a patch that wasn't there before (wine-0.9.4-null-thread-check.patch). Works fine now :)

Thx to Wine and/or Gentoo devs. Good work!!!

The ebuild appears to have been fixed now as you say, but it would have been nice for there to have been an ebuild revision bump so it got fixed automatically. Going from broken -> not broken with no revision bump is beginning to smell a bit like the vmware ebuild.
