thetroyv,
You will be using ethernet to connect to the shared cable now, via your XP box.
What does show?
All of it please _________________ Regards,

you need to be more specific, run through these questions for me:
- internet doesn't work but the local LAN does ? i.e. can you ping that XP box and other machines?
- what is the out of ifconfig and if not much, any errors in dmesg ?
- IP config is done via DHCP i presume, MAC addres not excluded ? |

hmm this is strange i tried restarting like twice before and no results but this time i shut down and turned on and it worked.
idunno if it was the shut down instead of restart or just something screwy with the gateway/and or ISP
like in "Gullivers Travels" "Simply by waiting, the problem has solved itself"
which leads me to another question: it seems my gateway IP addresses time out and makes it so everything on the lan doesnt have internet but the gateway still does. after disabling and renabling the internet and lan connections on the gateway then on the other computers it works again for an hour or two.
it happens about 5 times a day or so.
yes its DHCP
and after the time out the internet doesnt work but the lan still does.
any ideas? |
