Until today I've been booting my computer up, logging in as root and running kdm.
I just figured out how to autostart kdm and I'm wondering if theirs a difference between the two as far as security is concerned... Probably not I'm guessing because you have to be root to run kdm. |

If you do not log out after running kdm as root then there is the security risk of somebody switching to the first virtual console and doing things they shouldn't be (rm -rf /, stealing private data etc.)
It is much safer to use the /etc/init.d/xdm runscript to run kdm. |
