PostPosted: Sun Dec 25, 2005 2:25 am    Post subject: Problems with kdm! Reply with quote

I have set kdm up to start at boot and it tries to load but then goes to a login in a shell. I'm not completely sure but I think it is a problem with my video card/drivers. However I am unsure how to change my drivers to something else. Plaes help me.

I have an ATI RADEON 9200SE, and I believe it is running the ati drivers but i'm not completely sure.

Please help.

Thanks.

it is a lot to type up.

But i noticed two things:
1) it is using Radeon driver
2) it says:
Code:
Fatal Server Error:
Cannot run in framebuffer mode.  Please specify busIDs fo all framebuffer devices.

Whole results:

Remove the fbdev driver from your kernel.
If you want to have a graphic splash screen use the vesa or vesa-tng driver.

Before we do that, please post
Code:
cat /usr/src/linux/.config | grep FB

just to be sure.

Looks like X is using its builtin default values and hence using the framebuffer.

Did you follow this: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/ati-faq.xml?

Specifically the green highlighted sentence at the bottom about fglrxconfig.
