I am looking for a new wireless card for a Dell Inspiron 5100 that is compatible with gentoo linux (hopefully right out of the box). Any suggestions would help |

Hello.
Well, i dont know if the computer you specified is a laptop or a desktop computer, but, if it is a desktop computer, you could buy one with atheros chipset.
I have one in my desktop computer and works almost out of the box (just need to unmask the madwifi drivers, emerge them and you're done) !
at least this is my experience... I never had problems with that wireless card !
i guess that, any wireless card with atheros, orinoco and prism2/2.5/3 chipsets works well !
Cheers,

I second the atheros suggestion. I have a laptop that uses Intel's IPW2200 and it works fine too. |

for the prism you will have to get the firmware. i belive there is a ebuild for it in portage.
i have the inspiron 5100 and it works fine with a netgear wg511 rev01 |
