I am running a dual athlon smp machine (note, not opteron) with
Portage 2.0.53 (default-linux/x86/2005.1, gcc-3.4.4, glibc-2.3.5-r2, 2.6.12-gentoo-r10-tao i686)

Are you following the Gentoo Nvidia? I did this and had good luck with a newer kernel (2.6.14-gentoo-r2, I think, not in front of the machine just now). However, I did have an issue that was solved by this friendly thread.

I have followed all of the setup docs. I have it working fine with the 2.6.12-gentoo-r10 kernel and same version of nvidia drivers (with and without ACPI). I have successfully upgraded both kernels and kernel drivers. It is not the /dev issue, the same results occur if I make the devices maually or the init system creates them or if I use the /dev tarball. |
