I've been having lots of trouble getting my MN-730 wireless card (broadcom chipset) to work with Gentoo. So, I'm considering giving it a wired connection to a router that has wireless capability, and then uplinking this wireless router to the primary DHCP wireless router that is across the house. That way, as far as Gentoo is concerned, I'm using eth0.
wired card (eth0) -- > connected to wireless router (we'll call this WIRELESSROUTER1) with cat5 --> WIRELESSROUTER1 acts as an access point and connects to DHCP wireless router (WIRELESSROUTER2) across the house wirelessly (it's too far to run a cable)
Any thoughts on what settings I'd use to accomplish this, or at least a feasability assessment, would be great!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. _________________ Peace. Love. Gentoo. |

I followed the ndiswrapper walkthrough a few times earlier this year, but with no luck. Any thoughts on the access point proposition above? _________________ Peace. Love. Gentoo. |

You should be able to do it. In order to go from wireless <> wired lan I need to disable the firewall/dmz and so I always use wpa to connect. The other router would be the gateway and the connection would go through the wireless interface, you just need to set the access point to do this kind of connection. Sorry I don't know the terminology for all these things but it shouldn't be any problem w/ something like a linksys router. They typically advertise the capabilities. Anything would be linux compatible. The connection would be the same as a eth0 thats gateway's wired. |
