KDE Sound

For a interesting change, I emerged 'kdebase-meta' without 'arts'. Now from Control Center -> Sound System, I get "Unable to start the sound server to retrieve possible sound I/O methods. Only automatic detection will be available.

No, when I go to the Hardware tab, I see nothing except 'Autodetect' in the 'Select the audio device' spin box (or whatever you call it).

If you compile kde without arts use flag, it's logic that control center think that arts isn't.

It's not that I can't find arts, but I can't find alsa, oss, or ANY sound system.

BTW: The problem is that my KDE is basically mute, but applications work by themselves, just not KDE.

AFAIK, KDE is still broken without arts.

Exactly, with the exception of amarok, kaffeine, mplayer, ecc. where you can choose the audio driver you like. KDE (and its program, like juk, kaboodle, noatun, ecc.) sound system is based on arts deamon to work. without it don't work. No arts no party
