OK I'll do that but in weekend I need OpenGL to my student's projects so I had to fallback to x11-6.8

Then create packages for xorg7 so that you can easily (fast) return to it later...

Well the driver seems to be working so it probably has something to do with the ati-drivers-extra package...

If I get a message like this one:
Code:
$ fglrxinfo
X Error of failed request:  BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
Major opcode of failed request:  142 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request:  3 (X_GLXCreateContext)
Serial number of failed request:  17
Current serial number in output stream:  18

Where shall I start to look? (running ~amd64 and Radeon 9550GT)

Thnx!
/Anders

Hrm... I can't run glxinfo!?!? And a:
Code:
# equery b glxinfo
[ Searching for file(s) glxinfo in *... ]
dual_opt blossa #

Which package shall I install to get that?

The driver is 8.20.8 and it worked with xorg-6.8.*.
Warnings in /var/log/Xorg.0.log:
Code:
less /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep WW
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
(WW) fglrx: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:1:0:1) found
(WW) fglrx(0): board is an unknown third party board, chipset is supported
(WW) fglrx(0): Specified desktop setup not supported: 8

What does the last line above means? (The '8' appears again below)

I got pages after pages with messages like this in the xorg-log:
Code:
...
drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns -1023
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card250
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: Open failed

drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: Open failed
drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns -1023
...

But in the end, that seems ok(?)(and here I get the '8' again):
Code:
...
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
drmOpenDevice: open result is 8, (OK)
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
drmOpenDevice: open result is 8, (OK)
drmGetBusid returned ''

And this also don't look good in the log:
Code:

Last line in /var/log/Xorg.0.log:
Code:

I tried the symlinking but no success (thanks for posting it, I have heard about it but not been able to find how/where to symlink).

[edit] Xorg works, I just need opengl and dri. [/edit]

Thnx again!
/Anders

Try commenting out the DeviceID line in your Xorg.conf.

Try to comment out BusID as well, maybe you have the same problem as me

That was the one I meant :) Don't think the DeviceID will do any good to comment out.

And that is...? ;-) I commented out this row:
Code:
#    BusID "PCI:1:0:0"    # vendor=1002, device=4152

and now fglrxinfo gives me:
Code:
fglrxinfo
display: :0.0  screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: RADEON 9600 XT Generic
OpenGL version string: 1.3.5519 (X4.3.0-8.20.8)

so I guess we are going in the right direction! hehe

Anyway, the log is pretty much the same...:
Code:
# less /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep WW
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
(WW) fglrx: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:1:0:1) found
(WW) fglrx(0): board is an unknown third party board, chipset is supported
(WW) fglrx(0): Specified desktop setup not supported: 8

and so on... And running 'test' in Cedega still complains about opengl and dri, BRL-cad still won't work... So I guess that it is not working as it should yet(?).

Any ideas of how to move to 'next step'? ;-)

[edit]Just saw your replies (typing slow today). [/edit]

/Anders

Do you have fglrx module loaded? Does it complain about anything?

Yes I have:

I believe the AGP-stuff is some kind of patch(?), I can't change that in 'make menuconfig'.

Well AGP can be configured in kernel as well as fglrx can use its own implementation of AGPGart... Can you post xorg.conf? Did card previously worked(on older xorg)

Yes it worked perfectly with xorg-6.8.*. Here is my xorg.conf (what command do I run if I don't want the commented lines to be showned?):

Maybe try to compile-in agpgart support (in kernel configuration Device Drivers -> Character Device) if you don't have and after that play with UseInternalAGP option...

with 'make menuconfig I see:
Code:
--- /dev/agpgart (AGP Support)
  < >   Intel 440LX/BX/GX, I8xx and E7x05 chipset support
< > Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support)

I don't have Intel and I have had the above settings for 6 month or so and it has worked.
I don't know if I remeber right, but I think that in earlier versions of the kernel (like 6.10.* and earlier or so) I could choose if I wanted agpart built in or built as a module. Now I can't...

Should I try to set 'Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support)' as module and then select 'ATI Radeon'?

Anyway, I'll try to change the UseInternalAGP.

Thanks for your reply!

/Anders
