Here is the deal. It seams that i got the exact opposit problem that this guy got :
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-465826-highlight-workgroup.html
It's like this, I cant reatch any computer in the network, or even my workgroup it self, though my Gentoo computer. But the thing is I can see and access it from the other computers.
Pretty mutch the onely thing I've done is to emerge Samba and edit the smb.conf so that my workgroup is set to MSHONE(just like the uther mashenes).
In Ubuntu everything worked just fine from the beguinning, why not in gentoo?
I realy dont have any clue what the problem is.
I try to reatch the network though "Places > Network Servers". If there is any other better way. Please tell me.
Im pretty new to Gentoo though I've used Ubuntu for a good while before. |

There are tons of ways to connect to samba shares in linux. Which is the best is pretty much up to you. Now, you seem to have some difficulty with connecting to another computer through nautilus? (I assume that, as you have used Ubuntu in the past, which leads me to conclude that you most likely worked with gnome.)
I have had somewhat the same problem with Konqueror a few years back. Reason of failure back then was that windows expected me to send username and password directly upon connection. I don't know whether that behaviour really has changed, as I nowadays use mount to get to samba shares. There might be some configuration you have to make or check.
You could try something different too. If you have compiled samba file system into the kernel, you might want to try Code: | mount -t smbfs //server/share /path/to/mount/it/to | .

Ubuntu is a plug and play distro. Most stuff works right out of the box. Gentoo however usually requires some configurations to edit and some searching & tweaking for everything to be working properly. Both systems have their advantages: one is easy to get going, the other will make you learn a lot. Gentoo is the one you will learn a lot from. _________________ Horse sense is the thing that keeps horses from betting on people. --W.C. Fields
