|
|
Hi,
we are looking into different methods of having our own UNIX-software-packages , sysadmin-scripts, and compiled and distributed to some hundredse of sun machines, and a few thousonds of machines with RHEL3/4 , and different sub-architectures.
Me being a gentoo fan is seeing great oppurtunity to use portage to accomplish this by:
Setting up a standalone portage server whvich compiles all the packages we define, for the arch's we define.
Compile emerge for the clients to get software from the central repository. And emerge to get binary pkg's only for the clients, storing it in a site specific location not known to the installed operating systems pacakage management systems.
Any input , or reference to documantation on how to roll your own portage server, is highly appreciated.
Best regards

Not sure if it'd apply, but you might look at cfengine. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

You might want to set up a GRP server type thing. Perhaps you may also want to look at stage4's if you want everything to be identical. |
