Broken ettercap

I have a bit of a problem with ettercap. After installing it I tried to run it and it seems that it just doesn't want to work. I used the command that I usually use to load it "ettercap -i eth0" and although I specified the interface it still says "Please select an User Interface" and exits. I can't seem to make it work right. Anyone have any suggestions?

Are you sure it is not asking you which kind of output YOU want? Do you want text, curses or GTK+. Run ettercap --help if you are unsure how to choose.

I was confused because I hadn't used ettercap in sooooo very long (about 2 years) and with the older version I used it wasn't necessary to specify the interface like that - I think I somehow had it set to automatically use ncurses. I guess some days I just don't figure out some of the dumbest things although I've used Gentoo for about 5 years on my server and other PC's.
