Hi all,
I got a flat panel LCD-TV and I am using it for my vdr system. But its also connected via DVI so that can use X oder framebuffer.
Now I am looking for a software to get an realistic aquarium or something else.
I already tried:
xscreensaver with atlantis
and
gnome-extra/shermans-aquarium
But both aren't realasitic enought to get the right from my wife to but it on the wall in our living room.
Anyone knows a good software?
Best regards,

There are some aquarium loops on the "Finding Nemo" dvd that I remember liking. |

I am now using xfishtank with a nice wallpaper. But the fishes aren't that nice I want them. If you know cool, rendered fishes let me know.

There is a nice looking one that I always see running on the PCs at Costco. Looks pretty realistic. It is probably only for Windows, but at least it is out there. Wine?
I've kind of been thnking of this also. I think it would be neat, that if I left my MythTV box sit at a menu long enough, it would start an aquarium. My current TV is kind of junky though, so it wouldn't look to great. |

Aquarium Screensaver is the name of the Windows one. Looked ok on my old Voodoo 3, so would probably look a lot nicer with modern hardware on a good screen. It's not free software, but there's a demo version. I have no idea if it works with wine though.
I downloaded the demo from here, but it isn't even installing.
link
EDIT: it installed, but I can't get it to work... The configuration box comes up when I try to execute the .scr file. No idea how to get it to run the screensaver, let alone wether the 3D will work.
Also, the screenshot looks a bit different to the one I had, I dunno if this is a newer version, or just a similar screen saver.
Mod Edit: Fixed the link to prevent horizontal scrolling - tomk |

Again I suggest the loops from the "Finding Nemo" collector's edition dvd.
I agree with your wife that xfishtank is not that appealing.
If you own the dvd, you can rip the aquarium tracks to a hard drive and set up one of the many video players to display one of them in an endless (or very long) loop. I don't think you will find much better fish animation anywhere. |

I agree with BitJam, the scenes are extremely beautiful and well rendered. Dynamic animations can't come anywhere close. Is there a high resolution HDTV version of Finding Nemo? This would look amazing in 1080p! |

I reviewed the Finding Nemo aquaria and and I must admit they are probably too cartoony. Also, each one is just a few minutes long.
Here is a dvd that contains 3 hours of actual aquaria footage all shot in 1080i.
There are a bunch of wallpapers and some videos available on their "Free Stuff" page. I wasn't able to play the videos by simply opening them in mplayer but maybe there is yet another codec that I need to install. They say it requires the H.264 codec.
I downloaded the 85 aquarium wallpapers are they are very nice. They are all 1280 x1024. They will give you a very good idea of what is on the dvd. |

I don't own this DVD, but maybe I buy it on ebay or something.

Who needs to save the environment when you can have virtual animals! |

Anybody know what title/chapter the aquarium shots occur at? I can view them on my Collectors Edition DVD, but I cannot figure out what section to rip to a video. |
