|
|
After merging xorg-x11 I add xdm to default (with rc-update) then edit rc.conf with DISPLAYMANAGER="xdm". When, after reboot, xdm tries to start i can see for just one second the standard xdm screen without the login window then it becomes black...
This is what i found in xdm.log:
Code: | X Error of failed request: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 14 (X_GetGeometry)
Resource id in failed request: 0x0
Serial number of failed request: 491
Current serial number in output stream: 491
Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/local/, removing from list!
xdm error (pid 8805): fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer)
xdm error (pid 8719): Server crash rate too hight: removing display :0 |
Maybe the last 2 lines came from Ctrl+Alt+Backspace.
What can i do? Does it depend from xdm or from X?
Thanks |

from the console, login as root (use [CTRL]+[ALT]+[F1] if needed) and type
Usually there are some more informations displayed when xdm crashes.
Also you can use the command
and check if there are any error messages from the kernel. |

when i type startx, i see many fails like:
Code: | Failed to read: session.screen0.inconbar.mode
Setting default value |
but X starts and works fine.
The problem happens when i type
Code: | rc-update add xdm default |
and after reboot x start doing something like flash alternated with black screen, giving in xdm.log the error posted before
in dmesg i found an error abount EISA:
Code: | EISA: Probing bus 0 at eisa.0
Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 1
Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 8
EISA: detected 0 cards |

Looks like a xauth error to me. Try to remove your .Xauthority file in the home directory of the respective user and start your xserver again.
btw. Do you have any ISA cards on your machine? |

Are the messages in your /home/username/.xsession-errors the same as in the xdm.log?
Since it runs as root using startx (I suppose you where logged as root), it must be a profile or permission problem, but we need to detect the exact reason.
Are there some further error messages in:
/var/log/messages
/var/log/<your desktop log (kde.log, gdm.log)>
What desktop do you use?
Regarding the ISA-cards, it is possible that you have pnpisa support activated, but you do not need it. It just slows the boot process while trying to allocate the slots. launch lshw and check out the ISA-bridge. If it's unclaimed, you can disable your ISA support. |

there's no .xsession-errors in my user dir (and i think it's correct becouse i never reached the login screen), neither in the /root/ one.

there's no one of this files

lshw isn't on my machine, do I have to merge something to have it?
Anyway a scanpci give me this:
Code: | pci bus 0x0000 cardnum 0x07 function 0x00: vendor 0x8086 device 0x7110
Intel Corp. 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 ISA |
