|
|
Hi all,
I'm having some problems after I upgraded my gcc to 3.4 (had 3.3 from the 2005-1 release), that started when I did the "emerge e .." steps. My ipw2100 firmware isn't loaded anymore, and I've tried different versions of udev (which usually fixes that). Right after upgrading I I recompiled my kernel (vanilla 2.6.14) which was where I got my ipw2100 driver. With this firmware installed or not, I get Quote: | Dec 29 21:33:59 babynuke kernel: ipw2100: Copyright(c) 2003-2004 Intel Corporation
Dec 29 21:33:59 babynuke kernel: ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:02:02.0[A] -> Link [C0C5] -> GSI 5 (level, low) -> IRQ 5
Dec 29 21:33:59 babynuke kernel: ipw2100: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 Network Connection
Dec 29 21:33:59 babynuke kernel: ipw2100: eth1: Firmware 'ipw2100-1.3.fw' not available or load failed.
Dec 29 21:33:59 babynuke kernel: ipw2100: eth1: ipw2100_get_firmware failed: -2
Dec 29 21:33:59 babynuke kernel: ipw2100: eth1: Failed to power on the adapter.
Dec 29 21:33:59 babynuke kernel: ipw2100: eth1: Failed to start the firmware.
Dec 29 21:33:59 babynuke kernel: ipw2100Error calling register_netdev.

I realised later that when I compile the kernel I get (in the middle, it doesn't halt): Quote: | drivers/net/wireless/ipw2100.c: In function `store_memory':
drivers/net/wireless/ipw2100.c:3756: warning: unused variable `dev'
drivers/net/wireless/ipw2100.c: In function `store_scan_age':
drivers/net/wireless/ipw2100.c:4065: warning: unused variable `dev' |
So the driver isn't properly installed (the firmware for instance isn't installed, all I got is an old copy). I changed udev to many versions, didn't worked. Compiled the kernel without having ipw2100 loaded, also by the livecd, but nothing. What can I do? I appreciate any help as I'm new to linux.

ok, big big mistake, the firmware has to be emerged, it's not the kernel that installs it. Still, when I modprobe ipw2100 he says he can't find it (even though it is in all proper locations) |
