|
|
Currently configuring Xorg. Following this guide:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/xorg-config.xml
Problem at this point:
Code Listing 3.2: Generating an xorg.conf file
# Xorg -configure
The USB optical wheel mouse couldn't be detected when I tried the above CLI. When I installed my new Gentoo, I was following this guide:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?full=1
And have done this:
Code Listing 13: Activating USB Support for Input Devices
USB Support --->
<*> USB Human Interface Device (full HID) support
Please help. Thanks in advance. |

Check yout /etc/X11/xorg.conf for your Device
It should look something like (if using udev):
Code: | ...
Section "InputDevice"
# Identifier and driver
Option "Protocol" "Auto"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
... |
Most config-apps still don't accept/check udev, which is now default in Gentoo.
If this is not your problem, post output of /var/log/Xorg.0.log after

Sorry about replying late. I had to get a copy of Knoppix so I can boot in GUI with browser access to copy and past the document.

There seems to be a typo in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
It is looking for your mouse at /dev/mice (which is not there). Point it to /dev/input/mice and you are hopefully set
To check for your mouse just:
Code: | ls -l /dev/input
insgesamt 0
crw-r--r-- 1 root root 13, 63 1. Jan 19:05 mice
crw-r--r-- 1 root root 13, 32 1. Jan 19:05 mouse0 |
Keeping fingers crossed,
Aszreal

Quote: | Configuring your Mouse
If your mouse isn't working, you will first need to find out if it is detected by the kernel at all. Mice are (device-wise) seen as /dev/input/mouse0 (or /dev/input/mice if you want to use several mice). In some cases /dev/psaux is used. In either case you can check if the devices do represent your mouse by checking the output of those files when you move your mouse. You will usually see some junk on your screen. To end the session press Ctrl-C.
Code Listing 4.3: Checking the device files
# cat /dev/input/mouse0
(Don't forget to press Ctrl-C to end this)
If your mouse isn't detected, verify if all the necessary modules are loaded.
If your mouse is detected, fill in the device in the appropriate InputDevice section. In the next example you'll see we also set two other options: Protocol (which lists the mouse protocol to be used -- most users will use PS/2 or IMPS/2) and ZAxisMapping (which allows for the mousewheel (if applicable) to be used).

Quote: | The abbreviation RTFM can take many forms (mostly the 'F'), but in a nice sense, it is saying to Read The Fine Manual, or read the already provided documentation for the problem you are running into. If you hear RTFM in answer to your question, chances are that:
* Documentation has been liberally provided to avoid the trap you are in
* Many people have run into the same scenario, and the fix has been well documented
* You didn't do any research at all
Gentoo is a fine distribution to use, but you'll quickly discover that since all the options are left up to the user, documentation is a godsend once you know where to look and how to search. |
