I've just installed gentoo portage on my brand new imac G5, coming from a linux (debian) box.
I'm looking for the possibility to compile many of my linux application as revelation password manager.
I've for starting two questions:
1) After installing the portage I found a new user on the login screen named "Portage" but I can't access because password is requested and I never defined one during the installation. What is this user and why I need it? Why I can't see it in the user manager of OS X and how I can remove it?

2) Have I any chance to compile revelation password manager on gentoo portage?

The last: is it suggested to have also fink and xdarwin or not, and how can I make them interact?

Thanks a lot for the help instarting this new adventure!

ob1kenobi,

When your system is new, it has only one account that can be logged into - root.
There are many other accounts that are used by the system for its own purposes.
All have passwords disabled. Look in /etc/passwd. These users log in shell is set to /bin/false or /dev/null too.

The portage user is used by Gentoo portage.

Thank you. So I have to leave it there.
But, I don't have to use it directly for anything?
