I have a Nikon Coolpix 5600 that I have been unable to mount when it is set to USB Mass Storage, and couldn't get it to work with gphoto2 in PTP mode. The camera works flawlessly in Windows. I have also gotten another USB Mass Storage camera (Fuji Finepix) to work without issue.
dmesg output (when set to USB Mass Storage):

When I then mount /dev/sg0 /media/camera, it replies:
mount: /dev/sg0 is not a block device
When I mount /dev/sda /media/camera:

I had other problems with gphoto2, but I assume the problems are related.

For gphoto2, it appears that in the list of cameras for libgphoto2 your camera is not listed. Perhaps that explains why it does not work with gphoto2. Did you try searching on google to see if other people had problems or if someone had success? |

I used the libgphoto2 from CVS, which does support and detect my camera.
gphoto2 --auto-detect:

I have also tried it on a couple live cds (SLAX and KNOPPIX) so this isn't a distro specific issue. |

It works on my Fedora Core 4 based PC at work. This will be my solution for now.
I have tried it on all three USB ports on my home systems. Anyone have an idea of what possiblely could be going on? |

It turns out that my USB doesn't have enough power to interface with the Nikon Coolpix 5600 (very low wattage computer.) I plugged a powered USB hub into and the camera works now. |
