whenever i run WoW with wine ( 20050930 w/ mouse fix, or without mouse fix and even 0.9 ) it simply goes to a blank black screen after the "Handshaking" process.

currently running gentoo-sources 2.6.9-r5, installed the nvidia-glx/kernel with version 1.0-7676-r1.

a snippit from my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file:
Code:

...

Section "Device"
  Identifier  "Video0"
  Driver      "nvidia"
  Option      "RenderAccel"            "true"
#  Option      "AllowGLXWithComposite"  "true"
EndSection

...

#Section "Extensions"
#  Option  "Composite"  "true"
#EndSection

don't think i really forgot critical parts, like i said - WoW does run... until i try to log in :D i'm also able to run UT2004 so i know its not a graphical bug and i've got full connection to the internet ( duh i posted XD ) so i'm really not sure where the problem lies... like i said, it just shows a blank black screen, no output, nothing :-/ any ideas? need more info? - let me know.

btw:
i run the command 'wine .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/World\ of\ Warcraft/WoW.exe -opengl'
doing: glxinfo |grep direct renders a nice 'Yes' on the screen and shows that nvidia is in control.
also ran the 'eselect opengl set nvidia' command and it updated successfully, i also ran modules-update while i was at it....

Did you try rm -rf on the WDB folder, then remaking it read-only? WoW tries to create a Survey.mpq file in there, and that just messes everything up.

PostPosted: Tue Nov 01, 2005 9:39 pm    Post subject: Cursor problems in WoW Reply with quote

When ever I move my mouse my cursor disapears. If i got to my quest log or any kind of window like that my cursor is totally gone. I have been searching for a solution but i dont really know what to search for so i havent been having any luck so sorry if this question has been asked a million times.

Running it with Cedega 4.4.3 without opengl. It doesnt seem to want to load with the --opengl option on.

Thanks

well now i'm stuck again :P haha - i've used 'wine .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/World\ of\ Warcraft/WoW.exe -opengl > wow.output' to try finding out whats going on - only to see that there is no output... the basic problem is that it 'freezes' on me after about 3 minutes or so - i still have access to the system, but whenever i go to kill the process the VM size is crazy its 500,000+ what on earth is going on?! my nvidia modules are fine, and no other native games seem to have this problem... haven't tried any other wine-run games - and nvidia seems fine with everything else... any ideas as to where this huge leak is coming from? btw: tried 20050830, 20050930 & 0.9 i'm totally stumpped. :-/

-shadowrm

EDIT: info for my system is about 5 posts up and it doesn't matter if WoW is running at 640x480 w/ everything disabled or maxed out - its still about 3 minutes either way.

Anyone still have the bug where WoW locks up when you try to exit the game?

Not sure if this effects pure wine users or not. Only way to recover is to switch to another desktop and then kill wine. Of course now my desktop res has been resized to the resolution from the game and I have to reset it manually back to 1600x1200. Doing this every time I exit the game is getting to be really annoyng. Anyone have a fix or work around for this?

I'm on cedega 4.4.1

worked a bit longer, but now it faults out with some form of rtpl error, 'waiting 60 seconds before retry' or something like that. the sound 'continues to play', and by that i mean really really choppy like :) and then my network card blinks constantly like its still sending data or something :-/ geez will there ever be an end? :p ( again, thanks for all the input!! )

I am using wine and I have that problem. Strange thing is it only started happening a few days ago, and I made no changes at all to my wine or WoW configuration.

Found out what causes the problem for me. It is my window manager. If I run the game in xfce then it exits ok, but under fluxbox I have to kill it.

i just compiled wine-0.9 w/ the patch for the mouse bug this morning, copied over an install from my windows machine. When i go to run WoW w/
wine wow.exe -opengl

it runs ok i guess, but --really-- laggy. Im a serious noob w/ linux in general and this is the first time i've ever used wine.

where can i find the wine config file to make the changes shown in the how to install section. ive prolly got 4fps if that. its crazy. dont know if you need it but i've got an nvidia 64mb card running an AMD 3200 w/ 1gb of ram.. should it be this slow?

there is no config file any more, use winecfg instead.

do you have the drivers installed correctly? do other games run? what does glxinfo say?

X51: what wine version? can't you just copy an already installed version of the game from somewhere?

slackwarenoob: do other games run? what does glxinfo say? what driver version are you using?

so wine stopped working completely after you installed the nvidia drivers, even when running non-opengl apps? does it work again if you do opengl-update xorg-x11?
does glxgears work with the nvidia drivers?
post some additional info about your system, like you xorg.conf, /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status, your kernel version...

at least you wouldn't have trouble with the installation any more. just copying it from another pc worked fine for me.

ok, yes glxgears works with the drivers. To be specific wine quit working after i changed some settings using winecfg.. i think the doublebugger for the desktop one. I managed to get it going by uninstalling and reinstalling wine. but now that isn't working. is there any kind of file i can delete that would force it to reset its options? im getting a permission denied on the proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status thing. im logged into root. though...

heres my xorg.conf

i realize im pretty noob w/ this. but i really think the problem is with wine. really sucks that the wine config file doesn't do anything anymore. Bc both times i've had this problem its been right after i configured something in the winecfg settings about double buffering.

Almost everytime I get a gryph into ironforge I get disconnected from the server on arrival. Does anyone know if this is normal (because ironforge is so busy) or could it be a problem with wine. I have never been disconnected anywhere else, and after reconnecting to the server ironforge is ok - just a bit slow.

Hi Y'all

I've often seen posts where ppl post their framerates, but I couldn't find any command or menu in WoW where it displays the framerate, neither in the manual, nor on the official WoW page nor with googleing.

So, does anybody know the ingame command / menu where my framerate is shown?
