|
|
I rarely play games... but there are two games which I am particularly fond of... and those are War Craft 3 and Max Payne (1 and 2).
Can anyone suggest games which are in portage, are free, are similar to those two and will run on AMD64?
I was thinking as a Max Paye substitute, maybe Wolfenstein Enemy Territory... is that free? |

Enemy Territory is free, and it's fun game too, but it's nothing like Max Payne. It might be a little tricky to get it to run on AMD64, I'm not shure though since I don't have 64 bit CPU. I tried to help a friend installing it on he's PC with an AMD64 CPU running Ubuntu, but I wasn't able to get it to install. I've seen a few treads here about ET and AMD64, so just do a little search.
If you like strategy games like Warcraft mabye you'll like The Battle for Wesnoth. It's not a RTS game, but turn based. |

On gentoo all I had to do was emerge enemy-territory .
If you have an ati card you will also need to do an :
export LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH=/usr/lib32/modules/dri
before starting the game. I don't know what you need to do w/ an nvidia one. |

You might try warzone2100. Kind of old school RTS, very much a WIP, but good and looks like it's in portage for amd64. |

Try America's Army.
the Latest version has just been released at the website. www.americasarmy.com
This is by far a better game than CS:S. This game uses the Unreal game engine and there are windows, MAC and Linuc versions of the game. You may not be abe to e-merge it just yet. But I do know that the game "America's Army" is in the tree list. you may have to wait for an E-build to be made ready as the latest only came out today. Have a look at the package list to see what stage the testers are at. Or you could just down the .run installer. Oh and I forgot to say that this game is FREE |

I run 64-bit Gentoo. All I had to do was 'emerge enemy-territory americas-army' and they both installed fine and run GREAT! Both are great games and free! If you get enemy-territory running, come join us on neodi.net server! Hope to see you there man! |

If you have an nvidia card you DON'T HAVE to do that
________
Enemy-territory is FREE, but it doesn't have single player mode, only multiplayer one |
