Well, this is my own damn fault but let me explain what I did.
I had borrowed a HD from a friend and was using it to experiment with encrypted partitions. Recently I had my whole linux installation on that hard drive and the day came when he needed it back. No worries. I setup a similar partition scheme on another hard drive and began copying the files over.
The system boots up fine, no errors. The only problem im running into are some wierd errors when logged in as a user and I then began slapping myself in the face repeatedly when I realized the copy command I used was just
cp -r
instead of something like...
cp -rPp
I was wondering if there is any hope in fixing all the permissions or symlinks. Unfortunately I dont have the other HD anymore so I cant really start over
note: I am almost willing to re-install gentoo all together considering I have always kept my /home partition on my 3rd HD I reccomend this to everyone because even if you lose your linux install you still have all your files, AND there are tools out there for windows to read extfs. |

If you can get the old hard disk back, you should by all means do the copy procedure again, but do it with the "-a" option, which is much easier to remember. _________________ AMD Athlon XP 2600+; 512M RAM;
