Ho emerso cups seguendo la guida "Guida alla Stampa in Gentoo", ma quando lancio la stampa della pagina di prova dal browser la stampante non dà segni di vita.
Ho controllato il file di log in modalità debug ma non mi sembra dia errori.

La stampante viene riconosciuta:

Ho provato con entrambi i driver HP presenti nella configurazione della stampante via browser, ma niene da fare.......
Ho anche istallato un altro programma per gestire la stampante gtklp ma quando lancio la stampa di un semplice file di testo la stampante non risponde........
Che devo fare????????

Può darsi che la tua stampante ha bisogno dei driver hplip?

aumenta la verbosita' del log, riavvia cups, e rilancia un job

Ho naturalmente installato i driver per hp710c ed impostato il log level a debug2........
ma niente.......
la stampante non dà segni di vita........

A. These are non-standard host based printers. Currently there are no plans to support these printers in HPLIP. Ghostscript print filters for the Deskjet products can be found at the pnm2ppa project at http://sourceforge.net/projects/pnm2ppa/

Una volta scaricato il file compresso come lo installo......
Uso make && makeinstall oppure su gentoo mi devo appoggiare a portage????
Chiaritemi le idee.............sono un novello, ma viva GeNTOOOOOOOO!!!!!

hey hey hey calma eh eh eh guarda qui; se vai nella sezione dei documenti c'è una bellissima guida su come installare il tool partendo dai sorgenti... comunque per tua fortuna esiste pure in portage beh che dire in bocca al Lupo 
Se dovessi riuscire posta magari i file di conf così altri con il tuo stesso problema possono fare riferimento a te alla tua soluzione

Nel mio caso la soluzione è semplice:

localhost ~ # emerge pnm2ppa |
Ho gestito la stampante via browser:
| Code: | | http://localhost:631 |
e ho scelto i driver specifici per la mia stampante:
| Code: | | HP DeskJet 710C Foomatic/pnm2ppa (recommended) |
E poi ho lanciato una stampa di prova da browser....
Tutto OK.
