|

Hi,
I have an HP Laserjet 3P with a buggy problem that Ive had with Cups on several other distros also. After hitting the test button in settup or just trying to print something the data is sent to the printer, the "busy" light comes on and then after a few seconds the printer goes offline (online light goes out). If I press the reset/online button, the document successfully spools to the pinter and the page is printed perfectly. I don't know if its related to something in the PPD file or what. However I DO know that the printer works perfectly on distros that utilize the OMNI drivers, but there are none to merge. This slight inconvenience with printing has caused me to abandon several distros (having to manually put the printer back online after sending jobs to it to get the docs to print). Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be, how to fix it, or even possibly hacking something to use the OMNI drivers in some way??? I've been a linux user for some time and I've read other posts, but none have helped. This drives me nuts. If anyone has any ideas.....theres no need for a "n00bs guide", just let me know of any info anyone has.
Thanks for any help, in advance

Did you ever resolve this issue? I'm having the same problem. I've tried installing the omni drivers from a tarball, but having compile issues, and even when it's built, I'm not sure I can get cups to use this omni driver.
Any info you found since March would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve |

[edited] - delete everything, nothing helpful for anyone, but could mislead folks. Tip: sys-devel/omni is not the printing one.... that's net-print/omni |
