Emerge metadata - cannot resolve virtual package

Hi, I'm back

Well, as the title indicates, whenever I attempt to emerge metadata it hangs. Sure, if it was one thing I wouldnt mind, but it appears to have reprucussions (spelling?)

Basically as I attempt to emerge metadata it says
"!!! Cannot resolve a virtual package name to an ebuild.
"!!! This is a bug, please report it. (virtual/libstdc++-3.3)

Then when I try to emerge kde, it complains the same thing, except it mentions xorg-x11. xorg-x11 will emerge happily, as well as grub.
